Author Information

Mark Keen is the pen name of a former U.S. Naval Officer of the Line and combat veteran of foreign wars. Over his twenty-year career, he has served in the military and consulted for numerous Global 100 and Fortune 500 corporations the world over.
In the military, one of Mark's duties was to lead a Rapid Response Team (an SRT), similar to a SWAT team. In that capacity, Mark was trained in small team tactics and the use of small arms including shotguns, pistols, and automatic weapons. Mark was more broadly trained at Camp Pendleton and other locations on urban warfare and Marine Corps fire team tactics.
After the Sandy Hook tragedy, the topic of firearms and rights surfaced more frequently at dinners and light social settings. One day, a friend said, You know a lot about this. You should write a book about concealed carry. Shortly after that, Mark started to organize his thoughts into what would become Modern American Gunslinger.
The title comes from the author's stark realization that for a firearm to effectively help a person in a civilian self-defense situation, the defender must be alert, the weapon must be present on the person, and the weapon needs to be brought to bear within a second or two of a threat materializing. In a chaotic and violent self-defense situation, time and space are commodities that the self-defender does not enjoy. That was how the idea for Modern American Gunslinger was born.
Personally, Mark is an avid world traveler who enjoys scuba diving World War 2 sites. He is an independent student of philosophy with respect to liberal social orders, and is also a lay student of World War 2 history with a specific focus on the Pacific Theater and the political causes of the Great War. He currently resides within the Atlanta metropolitan area and is blessed with a wonderful family.
