OverviewThe papers in this book deal with a wide range of issues concerning the use of available or potentially available epidemiological, demographic, economic and social data to achieve rational health policy planning. The conceptual basis for health modelling is presented, as well as recent progress in the modelling of non-communicable disease risk factors, disease risks and health care services. These descriptions include the determining of the dimension time in which different diseases can develop and the latent periods which precede the impact caused by risk factors as well as competing risks. Availability of appropriate data for health modelling is also addressed, including the use of proxy measures. Several papers also address the problems of linking health status measures to health resource allocation models and health technology assessment models.
