Overview

"Ahlen – Ems – Münster – Osnabrück – Teutoburger Wald – Warendorf – Werse The Münsterland is a true paradise for every cycling enthusiast and is the most famous cycling region in Germany. Where else can you find a 4,500 km long, well-signposted cycle route network away from busy roads between the Netherlands, Emsland, the Ruhr area and the Teutoburg Forest. In addition, the landscape is flat and bike-friendly and there are numerous sights – primarily the well-known castles in Münsterland. The Münsterland is characterized by meadows and pastures, cheerfully alternating with little woods and hedgerows. Pretty towns and villages, dreamy farming communities with half-timbered houses and castles, moated castles, mansions and stately estates are scattered throughout. The lush, fertile lowlands of the Munster Bay are framed by the Hohe Mark and smaller ridges along the Lippe and Ruhr rivers in the south and the Teutoburg Forest in the north. Magnificent castles, idyllic landscapes, refreshing bathing lakes and small towns worth seeing are waiting to be cycled by you. In the heart of this beautiful region lies the ""bicycle capital"" of Münster, which is overflowing with cyclists - for example on the promenade around the old town. With around half a million, it has almost twice as many bikes as inhabitants. The cycle path along the Ems leads over long distances away from traffic through the renatured Ems landscape, but also repeatedly heads for sights a little off the river. Along the entire route you will find observation towers and footbridges in many places, which offer a wide view of the Emsauen. In particularly beautiful places, benches and rest areas invite you to linger. Numerous national themed routes run through the Münsterland, such as the European Cycle Route R1, the Peace Route and the Ems Cycle Route. As the queen of German cycle routes, the 100?Castles Route takes you into the fabulously diverse park landscape of the green Münsterland. A special feature in the Münsterland is the honeycomb system. The honeycombs created in the cycle path network were numbered consecutively, which means that a cycle path always runs between two honeycombs. This is also shown on slide-in signs below the main signposts as two numbers separated by a hyphen. Cycle paths and routes with information about surface and traffic density. Selected street names. Precise gradient and distance information. Selection of the most important tourist information. Waterproof and tear-resistant paper. Thoroughly researched and permanently updated. With the cartographic route information you can start your trip confidently, because all the necessary information is already compiled for you: road surface (paved or unpaved), traffic density, hill slopes, distance information tourist infrastructure such as inns and lodging establishments, as well as the cultural and scenic attractions of the region."
