Mixed Mense (Mixed People) is a Heal The Hood Practical Hip Hop Cultural Education School that Emile YX? created to develop a circular learning pedagogy by sharing elements of Hip Hop Culture and Alternative Afrocentric Information via LIVED EXPERIENCE through song lyrics, conversation, discussions, dance, plays, performance and LIFE. The main part of the project lasted fro four years and then members of the crew joined heal The Hood Project as facilitators, while others occasionally work with Heal The Hood Project on productions and other events. This book explains some of that work around the creation of their first album by the same name and the links to the music videos of the very songs that served as the foundation for their first lessons from questions of the lack of good news about their community, issues of identity as so-called coloured or mixed race people, the illusions of the ideas of racial purity, learning forgotten Bushman stories, using Hip Hop and art to fight for the protection of a lake called Princess Vlei, rhymes against alcohol abuse, conversations about God, each one teach one and many other ideas and experiences dissected.
