Gary S. Shogren tiene un doctorado en Exégesis del Nuevo Testamento por el King's College, de la Universidad de Aberdeen, y una maestría en Divinidades y en Nuevo Testamento por el Biblical Theological Seminary. Fue profesor de Nuevo Testamento en el Conservative Baptist Seminary of the East, New England Branch, Worcester, MA (1988-1990)y el Biblical Theological Seminary, Hatfield, PA (1990-1998). Fue presidente de la Evangelical Theological Society Eastern Region (1997-1998). Actualmente es profesor de Nuevo Testamento en el Seminario ESEPA, en San José, Costa Rica, del cual fue presidente entre 2005-2008. Es autor de numerosos libros en inglés, entre los cuales se destacan sus comentarios en español sobre 1 Corintios, 1 y 2 Tesalonicenses y Romanos y el éxito de ventas Running in Circles: How to Find Freedom from Addictive Behavior (Corriendo en círculos: cómo encontrar la libertad del comportamiento adictivo).
