Reviews

"""A marvelous picture book series on the importance of children understanding eye care. It would sit perfectly alongside classics like The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson. Educational, beautifully written and gorgeously illustrated. Hoorah for books like Misty Mole! This is an absolute classic.""—ANGELA KECOJEVIC, author of Scareground and the Oxford Reading Tree programme"

This is an absolute classic.""—ANGELA KECOJEVIC, author of Scareground and the Oxford Reading Tree programme ""Short-sightedness (myopia) is becoming increasingly common; in some parts of the world, 8 in every 10 children will develop short-sightedness during their school years. Research has demonstrated convincingly that spending more time outdoors reduces the risk of developing myopia. The Misty Mole books are a really engaging way for children to learn about myopia and the benefits of spending time outdoors. The experiences of Misty Mole will resonate with those who have become myopic themselves – that first pair of glasses makes the world look so incredibly sharp and clear!"" —Professor Jeremy Guggenheim, Professor of Myopia Research at Cardiff University, UK"

Author Information

Dr. Yasmin El-Rouby O.D MSc PH is a Canadian board-certified eye doctor with over twenty years of experience. She aims to raise awareness about common vision disorders and the importance of their early detection and prevention through regular eye exams and early vision screenings. Envisioning a world where preventable eye conditions are caught early, she founded Baseera, a non-profit organization, to improve access to basic eye care in developing countries. She hopes her books will help children and grown-ups understand the importance of healthy eyesight. Ishy Walters works as an illustrator and mural artist from her home in the hills of NE Scotland. With artists on both sides of the family she has always drawn and painted wherever she has found herself living or travelling and likes to explore different styles and mediums to create a unique response to each new project. As a high functioning dyslexic with dyscalculia (to use the technical jargon) Ishy is fascinated by the power of visual learning. Because we can record and retrieve highly complex concepts through easily recalled images, communicate many layers of information in one picture, and trigger all our other senses with sight, she believes there is a much greater potential for the visual arts in both education and the workplace. That pictures can transcend the boundaries of language, society, and culture, and connect people across these chasms is a constant motivation for her work.
