Reviews

From the country and downhome blues of juke joints and street corners to the electrified urban blues of the modern festival stage, this sweeping history traces the heartbeat of Mississippi blues across more than a century. Mississippi Blues: 1900-2025 dives deep into the rich story of the capital city's music scene where tradition, innovation, and raw storytelling collide. It captures the genius of King Edward, the enduring artistry of Jesse Robinson, and the electrifying legacy of Bobby Rush, placing their contributions firmly within the broader American music narrative. This volume is a tribute and a revelation for anyone drawn to the soulful echoes of Mississippi's past and present. Bob Damm, Professor of Music, Mississippi State University Mississippi Blues: 1900-2025 is a very comprehensive journal through time about Mississippi Blues. The book provides a vivid exposure of generations of musicians who have dedicated their lives to keeping the blues tradition alive and thriving. It chronicles musicians for over a century and gives the reader an awareness of the beginning of Charley Patton and Son House to the modern-day Bobby Rush and Jessie Robinson. The book references events that show the vitality of the music and the multiple voices of the African American experiences. It's a great help to find such a knowledgeable source.
