Miss McVey Takes Charge

Overview

Yorkshire,1936. April McVey is in charge of True Minds Marriage Bureau, trying to find happy futures for the lovelorn of Easterbridge, while the menace of fascism marches through the country. After two years of matchmaking, she thinks she has seen it all. But when an old friend arrives from Ireland, with a broken heart that's well beyond April's experience, and then a young nun asks her to find a match for her lonely brother, the consequences are shattering. And as political turmoil reaches their own community, will April have the courage to take charge and do the right thing? A heartwarming feminist romance from the multi-award-winning author of Mrs Hart's Marriage Bureau.

Reviews

Beautifully written, achingly romantic and utterly delightful. Zoë Marriott, author of The Moonlit Maze Expertly weaves romance, family drama and politics to bring the inter-war era vividly to life ... perfect for fans of A J Pearce. Emma Pass, author of Before the Dawn Praise for Mrs Hart's Marriage Bureau Beautifully authentic ... this is a gem. Kate Atkinson fans will love it. The Irish Independent A briskly witty delight, reminiscent of the best interwar popular fiction. The Irish Times
