Overview

The Miserere, Psalm 50 of the Vulgata, interprets the feelings of repentance of David, King of Israel, guilty of adultery and murder. Traetta, thanks to the unique features of the Female Conservatory of Ospedaletto, had first brought into liturgical music the virtuous style without betraying the sacredness of the genre. The composition presents, as a whole, a great structural balance. The alternation of solo Arias and choral pieces emphasizes the personal and universal sense of sin expressed by the sacred poet and intensely interpreted by the musician with unique adherence to the text. Il Miserere, salmo 50 della Vulgata, interpreta i sentimenti di pentimento di David, re d'Israele, reo di adulterio e di omicidio. Traetta, grazie alle caratteristiche uniche del Conservatorio femminile dell'Ospedaletto, aveva per primo portato nella musica liturgica lo stile virtuoso senza tradire la sacralita del genere. La composizione presenta nel suo insieme un grande equilibrio costruttivo. L'alternanza dei brani corali e delle arie solistiche mette in risalto il senso personale ed universale del peccato espresso dal poeta sacro ed intensamente interpretato dal musicista con singolare aderenza al testo.
