Una novela de detectives en la que Lope, siguiendo pistas para lo que cree que será su último caso antes de retirarse, se enfrenta cara a cara con la magia negra que envuelve la isla. A medida que envejece y comienza a resentir los dolores y molestias de su cuerpo, Lope sabe que su trabajo como detective de la Policía de San Juan está llegando a su fin. What he cannot fathom is that the multiple homicide that he's now investigating will take him all over the island in less than a week, followed--among others--by the heavy, grey clouds of an impending, and potentially devastating, hurricane. Very soon, Lope will find himself under the dark spell of a babalawo with a thirst for revenge. Amidst orisha rituals, the stifling Caribbean heat, and the gritty underground world of drug-dealers and hitmen, Lope will have to keep his wits about him if he wants to make it out alive.

Fue galardonado con el Premio Las Américas después de la publicación de Barataria, una novela en la que ilustra la colonia, el asimilismo y los absurdos de la realidad puertorriqueña. Juan López Bauzá is a novelist, screenwriter, and translator from Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was awarded the Las Américas Prize after the publication of Barataria, a novel in which he illustrates colonialism, assimilationism, and the absurdities of Puerto Rican reality.
