Overview“This is a book which demands to be shared and discussed.” Books for Keeps Two diverse countries and cultures are linked with warmth and charm in this two-in-one picture book. This innovative picture book comprises two stories designed to be read simultaneously – one from the left, the other from the right. Page by page, we experience the lives of two little boys – one from an urban family in Sydney, Australia, the other from Morocco. From busy motorways to desert landscapes, these worlds couldn't be further apart. Yet with the journey of a homemade Moroccan carpet into the Australian boy's home, we can see how these separate lives become intertwined. At the book's conclusion, the family in Sydney can be seen enjoying their new purchase together while the Moroccan family are surfing the internet. A powerful book, Mirror illustrates how our lives reflect each other and that we are all, even in some small way, connected. “An engaging and educational picture book…spectacularly detailed.” Bookseller Buyer’s Guide “Mirror is the season’s most remarkable book…original and brilliantly executed.” The Observer “Uses the mirror metaphor to wordlessly explore our actions.” Early Years Educator “…this is an important book about diversity that makes a lasting impression.” Bookseller Full Product DetailsAuthor: Jeannie Baker , Jeannie BakerPublisher: Walker Books Ltd Imprint: Walker Books Ltd Dimensions: Width: 27.80cm , Height: 1.30cm , Length: 25.20cm Weight: 0.550kg ISBN: 9781406309140ISBN 10: 1406309141 Pages: 48 Publication Date: 01 November 2010 Recommended Age: From 5 to 7 years Audience: Children/juvenile , Preschool (0-5) Format: Hardback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: Available To Order We have confirmation that this item is in stock with the supplier. Her incredible latest book Mirror is cause for great excitement, showing Baker at her best. This unique picture book is comprised of two parts, designed to be read simultaneously. Baker's intricate collages tell the story of an Australian family living in a city, set next to the story of a rural Moroccan family. Side by side we experience a day in the life of these two families. Their stories run parallel as one father and son set out through the traffic to the hardware shop, while the other father and son travel on donkeys through remote terrain to the outdoor marketplace. Yet despite their vastly different lifestyles and landscapes we see that these two stories are essentially the same, a mirror of each other. Baker explores the culturally diverse but universal themes of family, community and home with beauty and humanity. Mirror is an important Australian picture book for ages four and up.
