OverviewThe Congo River plays a highly catalytic role in regulating the climate around the forested areas of the basin that drain it, and at the same time benefits from it. Its basin covers almost 3 million km² (half of which is in the DRC). These areas constitute the world's most important tropical forest after the Amazon. It is home to ""some 10,000 species of tropical plants, 30% of which are found in the DRC alone"", reports WWF. Global Forest Watch also reports that losses in this area are apparently ""10 times greater than some estimates predicted"". However, the source of the Congo River, located to the south-east in the territory of Kambove, in the mining and agricultural province of Haut-Katanga, is not numerically known in relation to its geographical coordinates. This book attempts to explain the causes of the noticeable decrease in the quantities of water in the Congo River, as well as the causes of the drying up of the Congo River spring, on the one hand, and we have identified the threats in order to understand the causes of the deficit observed each passing year, on the other.
