While in Tokyo, he worked for four years at the architectural firm Okada & Associates before becoming a professor at Fukuoka University. After graduation he worked at the Design Institute for the Ministry of Commerce in China for close to a decade. Afterwards, he travelled to Japan to complete his Masters and PhD at the University of Tokyo, earning a PhD in Engineering.
