A retired surveyor, he is also a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and is a former president and honorary life member of the Cornish Institute of Engineers, as well as many other societies and institutes. He has previously publishing Volumes 1 to 7 of the successful Mining in Cornwall series with The History Press and is also part founder and owner of the Trounsen-Bullen Collection, a comprehensive archive of the Cornish mining industry.
