She then offers the word to us again, using clear language and relatable examples to illustrate the who, what, when, how, where, and why of modern (and western) magical practice, setting it in the context of the evolution of the western canon of knowledge. While it is clear that the book is written by a dedicated practitioner and lover of magick, she does not shy away from the controversies. She presents them as the necessary convolutions of human effort as we seek ways to understand, participate in, and experience the world. Mind Over Magick is a book for everyone: the skeptic wanting a quick and easy overview, the practitioner at all levels wanting an introductory guide and bibliography, and the curious wanting to see what the fuss is about and maybe, re-enchant their world."" --Helen Nde, author of The Watkins Book of African Folklore andThe Runaway Princess and Other Stories, curator of the online community Mythological Africans, and artist and folklore researcher ""Mind Over Magick is the practical guide to magical practice the modern half of your brain has been looking for. In these pages, Tracy Nicholas draws upon her education, professional experience, and personal wisdom to offer the reader a contemporary understanding of magic and discuss the contributions of confirmation bias, trauma, internal narrative and other influences that help and/or hinder practice. A grounded, worthy addition to any magical practitioner's library."" --Dr. Ceallaigh S. MacCath-Moran, author of The Storyteller's Guide to Folklore (Forthcoming) ""This book is an engaging exploration of what happens when magical and scientific thought collide. A reminder of the magic in the mundane and how our lives can be a source of enchantment. It is a must-read for dreamers and skeptics alike."" --Amy Boucher, cohost of The Shropshire Witches Podcast, creator of the Shropshire folk horror podcast The Best of Men, and folklorist ""Mind Over Magick is not merely an invitation to expand your practice and turn to sources of inspiration you might have mistakenly believed to exist in opposition to magickal thinking. Oh no, far more than that, this is a journey of remembering. A reminder that things can rarely ever be easily squeezed into neat, organized, compartmentalized boxes. This book reminds the magical practitioner of the intricate webs that connect all things. Coming from a culture where the word for science evolved from the word for magic, I truly appreciated the way Tracy Nicholas winds the threads of folklore, magic, science, and history to craft a book that will awaken the spark of inspiration in all who read it. A holistic and fabulous approach to magick that is digestible and accessible, whilst being expansive and provocative."" --Mhara Starling, author of Welsh Witchcraft: A Guide to the Spirits, Lore, and Magic of Wales ""Tracy Nicholas' Mind Over Magick is an honest exploration of various foundational and advanced issues that are, to me, fundamental to a magical practice. Applying solid scientific models and theories to the work, Tracy Nicholas discusses many facets of magic from energy work to rituals and practices. A thoroughly engaging read!"" --Benjamin Stimpson, folklorist and author of Of Doves & Ravens: The Witches and Wisefolk of Wales and the Borders ""Mind Over Magick offers a compelling and approachable journey through history, folklore, psychology, and science. Tracy Nicholas reveals how magick has always helped people navigate mystery and meaning, whether at the fabled crossroads of folklore or in the liminal spaces of our modern world. Whether you believe in magick or not (or indeed, if you simply use different phrases of your own to describe it) Mind Over Magick is an engaging journey through that world. Which, as Tracy suggests, is not always some distant and mysterious folk tale land, but the everyday world that we all walk through."" --Reverend Peter Laws, author of The Frighteners, Matt Hunter series, and host of Into the Fog podcast ""Mind Over Magick by Tracy Nicholas is one of the most approachable guides to magical practice you'll find.
