Mind moves: Removing barriers to learning

Overview

"There is much to learn from this book and, for sure, there are parts that are controversial, not least because De Jager is strong in her beliefs - ""Just as you would not expect someone with a broken leg to climb a mountain, you could not expect these learners to help and change themselves""- and, as was stated earlier, it is the propensity of the author to raise important issues for discussion. She also believes that, ""Teachers tend to teach the way they learn."" But, as De Jager so clearly explains in this book, the chosen way is not necessarily the way that every mind moves - whether the learner is a child or an adult. This book is a must-read for qualified teachers and therapists, and especially teachers and therapists in training, because it raises important issues that should be considered and discussed by everyone interested in learning."

This book is a must-read for qualified teachers and therapists, and especially teachers and therapists in training, because it raises important issues that should be considered and discussed. Alan Davies, Chartered Educational Psychologist, Associate Fellow British Psychological Society After many years as Paediatric Occupational Therapist in the USA and Namibia, I discovered 'Mind Moves - Removing barriers to learning'. I now was able to give practical hope to parents from a BRAIN DEVELOPMENT & NEUROPLASTICITY point of view. Mind Moves(R) has, without a doubt, quadrupled my success rate and finally brought my heart and soul to a peaceful place. This is a book for every parent and teacher who wishes to deeper understand children and enable them to access their potential. Tania Hartz, OT/ CIMT/ Tomatis Practitioner A logically written book using understandable language to explain what lies behind the barriers to learning. It's an accessible read for therapists, teachers and parents to remedy the neurodevelopmental barriers that children experience daily. It guides intervention from the root of the barrier, which is vital for long-lasting results. Its holistic approach adds valuable depth to the perspectives of various therapies, making it an indispensable contribution to the field of education, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and neurodevelopment. Renee Small, Clinical Psychologist, Parent A child's ability to learn depends largely on their own motivation. Whilst learning is a continuous process from birth throughout life, it is also about the ability to think and adapt. This book examines the core concepts of unlocking the power of learning and provides tools that should be at the heart of any education environment. This book is incredibly useful for students, parents and teachers alike. Zharina Wajoodeen, Counsellor When a child has learning problems, the parent feels disempowered and search for reasons why. Frequently they place guilt upon themselves. Melodie helps us make sense of a child's neurological development and provides hands-on, constructive solutions which are within every parent's reach. This book is set to make every parent and educator view learning problems and solutions in a refreshing new light. Mickey von Maltitz, Educator
