Overview

Within, it records one of Millwall's best away victories over Tottenham in 1900 and the equally outstanding result in 1929 against the same opposition. There are two classic encounters with Port Vale at The Den in 1958 and 1962, but the 1960 clash with Chester was drifting aimlessly along until a six-goal burst in the last 20 minutes or so, gave the game a totally false impression. The high-scoring 5-4 defeat at Exeter in 1981 came in a period of flux for the Lions as they struggled to find consistency. But by 1988 they had arrived at the top table, and duly won their initial First Division home game against Derby County. The 'Mother's Day' massacre of West Ham United and latterly the Titanic struggles with Leeds United are also included. An added bonus was the two Wembley appearances in 2009 and 2010.

Author Information

David Sullivan was born and bred in Bermondsey, south-east London, in 1947 and has followed Millwall since the age of 11. It was around May 2005 that he began to compile the book to fill a void in the club's literature by taking advantage of his own memorabilia and that of some other collectors' material. His support of the Lions and his observation of the game for over 50 years should give him some right to attempt such a history.
