Overview

This work is an essential guide to the Internet for Miles' loyal Radio 2 audience and the next wave of new and recent adopters many of who are increasingly drawn from the Radio 2 demographic. It will be true to the spirit of the on-air feature that appears on the Steve Wright in the Afternoon show - chatty, tongue-in-cheek, jargon-free and very user-friendly. It will contain general introductory material about the web itself, hints and tips and a review of 250-300 of the best sites available today. It will inevitably include the best and most popular sites featured on air since 1999, but it will be much more than a round-up of sites features on the show. There will be many new sites, new introductory sections, background material not appropriate for a 5 minute on-air slot and, given the fast-changing nature of the web, those sites which have featured on the show will require a significant amount of updating.

Miles Mendoza has worked in Radio for the last 15 years. He has been presenting the Website of the Day section for Steve Wright's afternoon show since 1999. Since then, the feature has taken on a life of its own as Miles continues to search for a mixture of daft, interesting and genuinely useful sites to enthuse about on the radio. Miles has written for BBC Parenting magazine and for BMI's in-flight Voyager publication (a monthly column highlighting the best new websites). As an internet pundit, he has appeared on BBC Breakfast News, BBC 2's The Money Programme BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Ulster. He has been a TV reviewer on BBC 6 Music and both a travel reporter and a comedy critic on GLR. He has also been a judge for Web User Magazine's annual Web Awards and judge and presenter of the Boats.com Marine Web Awards at The London Boat Show for the last three years. Off-air Miles can be found working with the interactive team for the BBC's digital rock station 6 Music, or reading Dr Seuss stories to his children.
