Overview

Mikkel is the youngest child of the King and Queen, born with indeterminate characteristics but arbitrarily raised as a male. He was treated as an outcast his entire life and into adulthood. When forced to participate in a hunting party for appearances sake, he instead shows the hunt's target - a white bear - compassion. This act entangles him with the curse of the bear who's really a man. The two must spend five winters as a married couple to lift the curse or risk breaking it. Away from his family at last and with the support of his new husband, Mikkel is finally free to explore who he truly is as a man named Mikkel, a woman named Mikkeline and a person named Mikke. Mikke and the Bear is a cozy queer fairytale featuring an intersex and genderfluid protagonist.
