Overview

The field of microporous solids in solid state chemistry has seen a huge expansion over the last decades with new developments in a diverse range of directions and applications. Drawing upon nature as an inspiration, scientists are continually extending known families and preparing porous solids with novel structures. In turn, the novel properties that these possess stimulate further research and applications. Microporous Framework Solids describes fundamental principles and experimental practices of the synthetic chemistry and physical characterisation of crystalline microporous solids. It also provides a clear and up to date discussion of different types of microporous materials, their applications and emerging areas of current interest, written from a personal research perspective. Topics include the different types of solids and their properties with key emphasis placed on the relationship between properties and structure. Structural methods are also discussed including the role of diffraction, NMR and computational studies. Finally, applications for catalysis are reviewed. This book is ideal for new researchers in the field of microporous solids both in academia and industry who require a detailed and informative overview of the subject. It provides a comprehensive review of microporous materials in an easily accessible style offering a valuable source of references over a wide range of topics.

Reviews

An excellent text for both experienced researchers and those new to the area.Excellent treatment of the traditional established areas - synthesis structures, and properties-as well as up to date references and developments on applications. An easy compliment or perhaps replacement of classic older texts on zeolites and molecular sieves. Its difficult to think of another monograph that treats the basic aspects of zeolites and their advanced applications togethter in such a descriptive manner.Ideal for anyone interested in researching nanoporous and mesoporous materials. This includes zeolites/zoetypes as well as the rapidly expanding area of mesoporous materials and metal organic frameworks. Journal of the American Chemical Society Scott R.J Oliver, Inversity of California. ...fills a gap in the available literature. First the author is to be congratulated for having had the courage to write a book on this complex subject. In my opinion the most important benefit of that bold initiative is that this book, unlike some multi-volume handbooks on this calss of materials, which often consist of an edited collection of review articles by different authors, has been written by a single author, in fact that contributes greatly to its understandability and clarity. ...the scientific content is up-to-date.. ...chocie of literature on the whole is very good.! ...the bookshould be in the everyday collections of all research groups whose work is focussed on porous materials or who sometimes deal with them. Angewandte Chemie, International Edition The author has created an excellent text for both experiencedresearchers and those new to the area of zeolites and molecularsieves. In summary, it is difficult to think of another monograph thattreats both the basic aspects of zeolites and their advancedapplications together in such a descriptive manner. The depthto which the author describes the known chemistry andimportance of these materials is another strength of this book. it is ideal for anyoneinterested in or researching nanoporous and mesoporous materials. This includes zeolites/zoetypes as well as the rapidly expanding area of mesoporous materials and metal organicframeworks. Journal of the American Chemical Society, 25th June 2008 (Scott R. J. Oliver)
