OverviewThe economies of most countries in sub-Saharan Africa are based on the agricultural sector, with the majority of the population living in rural areas, contributing to food security and wealth creation. To boost growth in this sector by improving production levels, some Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) help rural people finance their activities. These activities are carried out on the basis of income from family activities. To alleviate the problems of rural financing, these MFIs offer a range of loans for agricultural production. In order to assess the adaptability or otherwise of these credits, this thesis evaluates the effect of FECECAM and SIA N'SON microfinance credits on maize production in the communes of Banikoara, Bembéréké and Kalalé in northern Benin. Data were collected from 150 producers benefiting from agricultural credit from SIA N'SON microfinance, 150 producers benefiting from agricultural credit from CLCAM and 150 non-beneficiary producers, i.e. 450 randomly selected maize producers.
