Mickey 7 (Edición de la Película / Movie Tie-In)

Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION A science fiction novel that inspired Robert Pattinson and Bong Joon Ho's film, Mickey 17. Mickey Barnes is an Expendable, embodied in the seventh replica of his body, living (and dying) among his fellow colonizers on Niflheim, a frozen and nearly uninhabitable planet. Some see him as immortal, others as a soulless monstrosity. For the past nine years, he has carried out all kinds of dangerous tasks and served as a test subject for experiments pushing the limits of human endurance. He has sacrificed his humanity for the greater good. During a reconnaissance mission, Mickey7 is injured and abandoned to certain death. However, a native species of Niflheim rescues him. When he returns to base, Mickey7 encounters his next replica, Mickey8. Neither is willing to step into the recycler, but if anyone discovers there are multiple Mickeys, both will be sacrificed... and Mickey9 will never exist. Yet his premature twin is not the only secret Mickey7 hides. It has been a month since he last uploaded a backup of his memories, meaning his clone has no idea how close he came to dying or of his encounter with the planet's inhabitants. Mickey7 also doesn't know how most of his previous replicas died, and the deaths he does remember have left him traumatized and distrustful of the colony's mission. A mission that forces him to question his morality and his mortal existence... again and again.

Author Information

Edward Ashton is the author of the novels Three Days in April and The End of Ordinary, as well as short stories published in outlets as diverse as the newsletter of an Italian sausage company or Escape Pod, Analog, and Fireside Fiction. He lives in New York, in a cabin in the woods (not that cabin in the woods), with his wife, a variable number of daughters, and Max, his lovable and melancholy dog. In his free time, he enjoys researching cancer, teaching quantum physics to grumpy graduate students, and whittling with a knife.
