Overview

Although often overshadowed by his more flamboyant older brother Leon, Michael Spinks was a consummate professional who had one of the greatest careers in boxing history. Both brothers overcame immense trials and tribulations while growing up in a St Louis ghetto to win gold medals at the 1976 Olympic Games. While Leon defeated Muhammad Ali in his eighth pro fight before going into a headline-making freefall, Michael defended the light heavyweight crown 10 times and became the first titlist in that division to win the world heavyweight championship when he defeated Larry Holmes.
