L'opera de New York en 1905. Le premier batiment, concu par J. Cleaveland Cady et inaugure le 23 octobre 1883, se trouvait le long de Broadway, entre la 39e et la 45e rue. Il fut endommage par un incendie en 1892, puis apres reparation, resta utilise jusqu'en 1966, annee ou la compagnie d'opera investit les nouveaux locaux du Lincoln Center. L'ancien batiment, n'ayant pu obtenir le statut de monument historique, fut rase en 1967.
