Metaphysical Animal: Divine and Human in Man

Overview

The theantropic structure of man postulates a specific relationship between the Divine Immanence and the Divine Transcendence with respect to the divine/human composition of man's nature, thus establishing a synergetic union between God and man. Human nature so conceived, compels man to exist in an ambiguous situation, and to live his life in a constant tension between his desire for eternity and his want for temporality. The author analyzes the traumatic conditions of theantropic consciousness of man as it is expressed by both the ancient and contemporary thinkers, and how it is portrayed in the literary works of writers and poets, dramatists and film makers.

Reviews

Andrew Woznicki's work contributes greatly to the understanding of the person in the perspective of ultimate human destiny. 'Metaphysical Animal' is a most original study, and it will help philosophers and theologians analyze the structure of human identity as the recipient of both natural and supernatural Divine revelation. Andrew Woznicki contributes to a creative dialogue by bringing together for consideration fundamental issues of the great religions (Mieczyslaw A. Krapiec, Professor of Metaphysics and member of the Polish Academy of Science and the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas) ...The Congress gave us the opportunity to discuss further your important project on Theantropy looking back into the roots of religion. This could help to found the multiple modes of the religious aspirations shared broadly in diverse but analogous manners across the breadth of humankind...The World Union of Catholic Philosophical Societies and the Council for Research in Values and Philosophy would like to encourage this research and draw upon it as their own. Please forward the results of your work on this important theme in order that they might be shared with our members. (George F. McLean, The Council for Research in Values and Philosophy)
