OverviewThis book demonstrates the variety of metamaterials in presented in the scholarly, research literature—their compositions, manufacturing methods, and applications. It reviews critical work appearing in over 400 papers published within the last five years discussing these materials. This volume summarizes the main findings of this topic for a graduate level beginners in the field of mechanical engineering, materials science, manufacturing engineering and electrical engineering. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDr. Nikhil Gupta is a Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. He is also affiliated with the NYU Center for Cybersecurity. His research interests include developing lightweight materials, additive manufacturing, and materials characterization methods. He has served as the membership secretary of the American Society for Composites and Chair of the Composite Materials Committee of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS). He is an elected fellow of ASM International and the American Society for Composites and senior member of IEEE and National Academy of Inventors. Caleb Beckwith is a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at New York University, specializing in understanding aperiodic metamaterials and their design for additive manufacturing. His research focuses on the design of and characterization of the mechanical behavior of quasi-crystalline lattices such as 2D Penrose tiles and 3D quasicrystals to create porous structures with tailored properties. He works extensively with SLA printing and developing syntactic foams in thermosetting polymers, aiming to enhance ductility for novel applications and compositions for metamaterials. Caleb also integrates non-destructive testing (NDT) to evaluate these metamaterials, advancing the characterization of complex metamaterials without compromising their structural integrity.
