Overview

"This publication provides a comprehensive summary of data and information in the metabolism and chemical degradation of agrochemicals in soils, plants and animals. Part 1, ""Herbicides and Plant Growth Regulators"" and Part 2, ""Insecticides, Fungicides and Nematicides"", together provide a bibliography, as each entry is fully referenced. Contents include metabolic products, pathways and mechanisms, together with useful details on physico-chemical properties and mode of action. There are separate entries for each pesticide, covering most commercially available chemicals in use today. In addition, an overview of the metabolism of each major class provides the reader with a summary of key similarities and significant differences between individual chemicals. Information is based primarily on literature from the past 40 years of research, together with some unpublished work, particularly on sulphonyl ureas and imidazolinones."

A better reference source cannot be imagined ... should be in every library and at the right hand of every agricultural chemist, toxicologist, and environmentalist. --Veterinary and Human Toxicology, 42 (1) February 2000 .. . Metabolic Pathways of Agrochemicals will be an invaluable reference for chemists, biochemists, and biologists working in the discovery, development and registration of agrochemicals, as well as scientists in related areas such as design and mode of action of pharmaceuticals. --Plant Science 2001 .. . a must for every one with an interest in insecticide and fungicide metabolism and degradation ... an excellent reference book. --Journal of Environmental Monitoring, 2000, 2, p 21N The structures are very clear and appear carefully drawn. Each major section is preceded by an extremely well-written overview. ... these overviews are extremely valuable in themselves, providing a thumbnail sketch of the classes of material and their toxicology. ... as a metabolism chemist I found the book hard to put down. This compilation of summaries facilitates the comparison of metabolic pathways among structures and encourages the readers to draw conclusions regarding their own unifying principles of metabolism. --Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 67, 217, 2000 .. . an invaluable reference ... --International Journal of Environment and Pollution, Vol 12, Nr 4, 1999 These two volumes are a mine of information ... useful works of reference that can be thoroughly recommended ... --Angewandte Chemie, International Edition, Vol 40, No 8, April 17, 2001, p 1548 .. . a comprehensive reference ... a highly authoritative and informative compilation ... an easy read with rapid retrieval of the specific information desired. --Vet Human Toxicol, 41 (3), June 1999 .. . this volume will be welcomed by the herbicide community ... should establish itself as an authoritative reference work in a critically important field, in the years to come. --Pesticide Science, Vol 55, No 7, p 756
