Message From an Ancestor

Overview

""Message From an Ancestor"" is a compelling and riveting story chronicling the life of the young Chaku, kidnapped from her loving and protective African village, becoming part of the terrors of the Middle Passage, then enslavement in America. Yet, Chaku remains unbowed and unbroken. The piece, in two acts, also introduces us to the determined Ayo, Chaku's beloved daughter. Through the movement of their lives, we are jolted by truth, enraged by disrespect, and encouraged by the forces of love, pride, heritage, and hope. Joyner weaves a powerful tale of love and resilience; while reminding us of the power of ancestral strength and wisdom.
