OverviewIn recent years, studies on the plastic behaviour of materials and their constitutive representations have been a focal point in the field of plasticity. Starting from classical macroplasticity theory, a systematic framework of microplasticity is presented using a combined approach of solid mechanics and materials science, encompassing various plastic deformation mechanisms from dislocations, twinning, shear banding and grain boundary sliding to transformation-induced plasticity. Besides a systematic discussion on the constitutive formulation derived from crystalline and geological materials, other subjects such as the hardening mechanisms and meso-damage theory, are also discussed.
