OverviewMercedes Pinto fue, ante todo, una mujer valiente y luchadora. Escritora, dramaturga, periodista y oradora nacida en La Laguna (Tenerife), destacó desde muy temprano en el ambiente cultural de las islas, donde sus versos le valieron el sobrenombre de >. Por desgracia, sus ideas en favor de los derechos de la mujer y sus acciones políticas la obligaron a emigrar a Sudamérica. Writer, playwright, journalist, and speaker, she stood out from the cultural environment of the islands, where her verses earned her the nickname of ""La poetess Canaria"". She illustrated various books, among which the classics One Hundred Years of Solitude or Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez. Luisa exhibits her work and teaches illustration workshops regularly. Alicia Llarena is professor of Hispano-American literature at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the author of numerous articles published in national and international magazines.
