Memories, Etc.: Boyhood Memories of a Kid from Kensington

Overview

Get ready to take a nostalgic ride back in time as Rich takes you back to the fifties and sixties, to a blue-collar, inner-city neighborhood in Philly. You will learn how kids in this lower, middleclass neighborhood lived. Rich talks about his family, the street he lived on, and the neighborhood that was his stomping grounds. He will talk about how tightknit the neighborhood was back then and how he lived through many changes that he witnessed, and not all for the better. The best local places to eat at the time, as well as well as what kids did for fun and adventure in a time before Laptops, PlayStations, Video games and cellphones. He shares his love of Hissey playground and McPherson Square Park and Library. He will also talk about family vacations to Delaware and Maryland. Other things will be shared, like movies that were filmed there, Christmas memories, the stores on Kensington Avenue, as well as some of the games that all of the kids played. You will learn about places that were like a magnet to the neighborhood kids, not all shall we say, legal. If our parents knew what some of the things we did, we would have been severely disciplined. One good thing learned was that a lot of the bonds of friendship formed back then, remain to this day. He pays a loving tribute to his mom and dad in his own somewhat off sense of humor, and makes it clear that being called a Kenso back then was a real badge of pride.
