Soon after he reached Melbourne in 1848, Charles Perry, the first Bishop wrote to his followers in Britain; Everything is on a small scale. But there has been, and promises to be, a rapid growth in everything - in population, wealth and, i trust, in sound religious principle. Since those early days, the place for a village has become Marveloous Melbourne and, in current estimation, one of the most liveable cities in the world . The Anglican Diocese of Melbourne has been part of that growth and it's significant presence is dominated bu the magnificence of St Paul's Cathedral that doinates the main approach to the city from the river. This series of essays celebrate one hundred and fifty years of the Anglican Archdiocese of Melbourne. The essays capture the history, the spirit and the future directions of the Diocese.
