Overview

Eight-year-old Melanie has a problem. She has a monster. Every day Melanie's monster fills her with fear and anxiety and makes her tummy ache. Melanie's monster shows up just about anywhere she goes. At school, it makes her endure teasing on top of fear and shame. Her parents don't know what to make of Melanie's monster because she refuses to talk about it. ""She'll grow out of it,"" says her mom. Overhearing a conversation of her parents, Melanie decides to ask for help. In doing so, Melanie meets a new friend who helps her choose the weapons she will need to fight her monster. Will Melanie find the courage to overcome her fear and face her monster? To find out, join Melanie on her journey to destroy her monster. This is a touching story of a young girl's secret fear and how she overcomes it. The book contains a bonus section at the very end on how to make two versions of one of the important story elements.

Author Information

H. N. Henry (Huard, Norman Henry) has a 32-year teaching career: 6 to high school and elementary students, 10 to grade 1 children, and 16 to reader's and writer's workshop, computer science and visual arts in high school.Studying stained-glass window design, cartoon animation, and contemporary art styles influences the digital illustrations in his books. A former back-to-the-lander, bee keeper, tree farmer, Norm still has the gift to witch for water.A writer's workshop student gifted him a leather-bound notebook of blank pages and told him to write a story. He did. Thirteen notebooks and 1333 handwritten pages later, Norm had the foundation of The Dragon's Game books, his six-book fantasy series.Appreciating how people, young and old, are wired to love stories, inspired Norm to publish a children's fable, How Eagle, Crow and Turtle Got Their Colors, along with the audio-book he narrates, and its complementary companion coloring book. His latest children's book is Melanie's Monster, which he offers in e-Book, paperback, hardcover and soon, audio-book formats in English and French versions.
