In the 1980s she worked as the associate curator of Latin American art at the San Antonio Museum of Art, where she curated the collections and exhibitions of Hispanic/Latino art. She is the author/editor of several exhibition catalogs; co-author with Karen Bruhns of two books Faking Ancient Mesoamerica (2010) and Faking the Ancient Andes (2010), and author of several short articles.
