The Vienna-born writer Emil Alphons Rheinhardt (1889 1945)was was arrested in France in 1943 and then deported to Dachau concentration camp, where he died shortly before the liberation. Rheinhardt s notes from the Gestapo prisons bear witness to a long-forgotten humanist who believed in the peacemaking power of culture.
