He is the author of books and articles on the development of the medieval town, countryside and technology. He has carried out extensive fieldwork in both France and England, including a long-term archaeological research programme on a medieval monastery in the English Midlands. John Langdon is Professor of Medieval British History at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He has written a book, Horses, Oxen and Technological Innovation (1986) plus numerous articles, appearing in such journals as Past and Present, Economic History Review and the Journal of Historical Geography.
