Author Information

Grenville Astill is reader in Archaeology at the University of Reading, UK. He is the author of books and articles on the development of the medieval town, countryside and technology. He has carried out extensive fieldwork in both France and England, including a long-term archaeological research programme on a medieval monastery in the English Midlands. John Langdon is Professor of Medieval British History at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He has written a book, Horses, Oxen and Technological Innovation (1986) plus numerous articles, appearing in such journals as Past and Present, Economic History Review and the Journal of Historical Geography.
