She was called to the Bar in 1989. Her books include Medicine, Ethics and the Law (BP, 2011) and Medical Law (Kluwer, 2010). Dr Madden was a member of the Medical Council from 2004 - 2013 and is a current member of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council. She is a member of a number of national expert groups related to medical law, ethics and patient safety. Dr Madden also chaired the National Consent Advisory Group for the HSE.
