Overview

Forty-six years old, wife and mother of three small children and holistically inclined, Madsen successfully attends medical school. How she reconciles her ideals of healing with her medical training, and how her family copes, tells a story that not only gives pause, but delves into the realities of medical school. With humor and depth, suitably grim and gripping, this book will instill hope and courage into those who enter the medical system with a holistic approach.

Author Information

Lynn Madsen PhD MD is obviously well-educated; how much that matters in our world is now up for debate. Her recent memoir, Guilty by Degree: If you're Being Investigated By the Feds, Be Sure to Wear Fun clothes, illuminates the risks of higher education in our litigious and bureaucratic society. To be an authentic healer requires training beyond degrees. This most recent memoir about her adventures in medical school highlights the dilemma of being a healer in our modern-day medical system. Dr. Madsen is now a health coach--ironically no longer prescribing, nor ordering patients what to do, it turns out healing has more to do with fostering the inner healer in us all; her books illuminate this process. She was part of the inner workings of our medical system, and now is a member of the fringe of society that welcomes her in all its diversity, in all its hope and goodness.
