OverviewMedellin, the second largest city in Colombia, is a clear example of profound self-reinvention. Since the turn of the millennium and after being known and labelled for decades as a place of violence, this Latin American city has been transforming itself into a place of hope and creation. Supported by the local government and a group of forward-thinking Colombian architects, the new image of the city is represented by experimental architectural projects which have emerged as the real instrument of an inclusive urban-social change. Internationally renowned projects such as the Espana Library (designed by Giancarlo Mazzanti), the Orquideorama (by Restrepo and Plan B) or the Temple of Ashes and Crematorium (by Felipe Uribe) are described and illustrated in detail, in the context of the new local social scene.
