Mechanisms and Therapies of Renal Fibrosis

Overview

Renal fibrosis is a hallmark of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) that involves the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix components in the renal interstitium, leading to the disruption of normal kidney architecture and function. Several mechanisms contribute to renal fibrosis, including inflammation, oxidative stress, Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT), and activation of fibroblasts. Therapeutic interventions include anti-inflammatory agents, antioxidants, inhibitors of EMT signaling pathways, and antifibrotic drugs targeting fibroblast activation and collagen synthesis. Additionally, renoprotective therapies such as Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone System (RAAS) blockers and endothelin receptor antagonists help mitigate fibrosis progression by reducing blood pressure and proteinuria. This book contains some path-breaking researches on renal fibrosis. It consists of contributions made by international experts. Those with an interest in the different aspects of renal fibrosis would find this book helpful.
