Overview

This is a modern English translation of the classic Weber brothers study of the mechanics of human walking and running, developed at the end of the 19th century. They based their mathematical conclusions on anatomical studies and observations with the naked eye and telescope. The Weber brothers' work was the first serious attempt to explain these motor functions since Borelli's study in 1680 and it also preceded the research of Braune and Fischer in 1895-1904 using photography.
