This book brings together features and methods of traditional and modern approaches to tests for the characterization, design and quality control of bituminous mixes combining the advantages of both. Bituminous mixes are used throughout the world for highway construction and surfacing. Traditional test methods for bituminous mixes are largely based on empirical procedures and have only a limited significance. Newer, more fundamental test methods can provide more reliable and significant results but they often require complex testing facilities and are not suitable for routine use.
