"Most plants get their nutrients from photosynthesis; however, some plants must also get nutrients from meat. These plants are called insectivorous and get most of their meat from insects. This next book in the ""Fact Finders: Extreme Life"" series explains how and what type of plants eat insects and other meat. The author explains about plants: what they are and how they need to survive. But the author also teaches about plants that need more--from eating insects to eating bird poop. For example, one large color photograph shows a grasshopper trapped inside a plant. Another picture shows a bee stuck in the center of a sundew plant. There is also a great picture of a pitcher plant that can drown insects and turn them into ""bug soup."" The book also includes an ""interview with a venus flytrap"" so that readers can ""understand"" what that plant's perspective might be. An index, a glossary, a list of further reading, and information about botanists are also included.-- ""Children's Literature Comprehensive Database"""
