Me and Achilles and Sisyphus: Why Myths are in our Minds

Overview

A discussion of some Greek/Roman myths that are widely recognized in 21st century culture. Why do we all know about Sisyphus pushing a rock up a hill? Why do we expect a lightning strike when we do something bad. Why do we say, Achilles' heel or Pandora's box? This book presents the full mythological story for a dozen myths that are alive today, and discusses connections with our time and possible reasons why the myths are part of our thought process. It even has a chapter on the connection among Centaurs, Amazons, Andromeda, and racism. The book is written for the general reader, and begins and ends with brief essays on the nature of mythology.
