OverviewThis is a new title in the IBN Wings series, primarily intended for model makers and aviation enthusiasts. Douglas Aircraft developed the DC-9 in the 1960s as a short-range companion to the larger DC-8. In the 1970s the new McDonnell Douglas Company introduced the MD-80 series. Rear-engined aircraft designed for frequent short-haul flights for 130-172 passengers. The MD-82 version was used by the two Italian airlines Alisarda and Meridiana (now merged as Air Italy) for nearly 33 years, with some of the planes remaining operational until February 2018. The book retraces the creation, development and use of the MD-82 as an innovative tool in the use of such aircraft on short and medium range routes. Copious notes, diagrams and illustrative material will also assist a model maker to detail the various markings on the aircraft, particularly the final group left in service prior to the changes made by Air Italy.
