Maybelline Has A Very. Bad. Day.

Overview

Maybelline is a playful young goat living on the farm with her mama, sister, and barnyard friends. But today, everything seems to be going wrong! From the moment she wakes up missing her sick friend Ellie, one mishap follows another. Whether it's getting bonked by grumpy Aunt Ivy, pricked by thorns, or stuck in the fence, for poor Maybelline, nothing is going right. Will this rotten day ever end? When Maybelline accidentally spills everyone's acorn snack in the mud, her friends are NOT happy. Add a stinging shot from the vet, a nip from the herding dog, and a tumble into a muddy puddle, and you have one very bad day indeed. But snuggled safely with her mama that night, Maybelline discovers an important truth: bad days happen, but they don't last forever. Young children will see themselves in Maybelline and understand exactly how she feels during her tough day. In this social-emotional journey, Maybelline learns how to overcome obstacles, navigate big feelings, and count on friends and family to help her. This is a relevant story about resilience and friendship which will engage young children and encourage follow-up discussion. The questions provided at the end of the book may assist parents in finding conversation points. Perfect for ages 3-6. I've created the Maybelline's Antics Book Series to help young book lovers see themselves through the antics of Maybelline, our playful and charming young goat. She has bad days, she has good days, she gets in trouble, she gets to go on field trips...all things children three to six years old can identify with. In her social-emotional journey, Maybelline learns how to overcome obstacles, be resilient, and count on friends and family to help her. Young children will be able to see themselves in Maybelline and these relevant stories that engage and encourage follow-up discussions.

Author Information

Dawn Dolan is a children's author and goat farmer who traded the office for the barnyard. She lives on a small farm in Northern California, where she has raised goats for twelve years. She began the Maybelline stories several years ago when her oldest grandchildren were little, as the ""Maybelline"" of that day got into all sorts of trouble! It was a fun way for her grandchildren to emotionally relate to the funny antics (sometimes naughty!) of the baby goats. The humorous happenings expanded and have turned into a book series that Dawn hopes all children will love.Dawn was surprised to discover that such great stories were waiting right in her pastures. As a grandmother of young children and a former elementary school teacher, Dawn understands what makes young minds both chuckle and marvel. She brings that spark of joy to every page of her books, which feature Maybelline, a spirited and thoughtful baby goat (who is the embodiment of several young goats she's had over the years). Dawn's goal for the Maybelline series is to engage children with her relatable stories. When she's not writing, Dawn can be found on her small farm, tending grape vines, collecting eggs from her chickens, and wrangling her wonderfully capricious goat herd. She loves spring because it is when baby goats are born. The daily antics of her four-legged farm friends seem to provide endless inspiration. Dawn lives in Northern California, where the vines meet the barn. She is surrounded by the funny, sweet, and sometimes naughty characters who inspire her books.
