OverviewThere are those who hold that there is no point in writing about espionage in Spain since the only thing worth spying on is the Spanish omelet. There are others who maintain that the country has a noble tradition of intelligence-gathering, and has something of interest to say in a literary genre already well-established elsewhere, with its own characteristics and rules, dealing with espionage in its many guises. All of which in part explains the idea of setting up a club (named 004), bringing together a handful of writers, journalists, and fans of the spy genre, serving as a platform to raise awareness and foster discussion and debate on what is often referred to as intelligence culture, or to promote knowledge and awareness of the intelligence services. The members of Club 004, hailing from a wide range of professions and literary genres, have taken it upon themselves to publish this collection of spy tales based on true stories from the past and present. To the best of our knowledge, Spain's literary scene has produced few works that stand comparison. Eleven tales and three true stories that will no doubt serve to spark interest in a type of literature that is crucial for understanding the times in which we live.
