Mitchell has taught developmental mathematics, mathematics for nursing, and mathematics for agriculture at the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS)/Hopkinsville Community College, where she received the award for outstanding adjunct faculty member in 2000. Previously a high school math teacher for 27 years, she taught courses from general mathematics through calculus. Ms. Mitchell has lived on farms her entire life, owning and operating her own for more than 40 years, and has been involved with several types of crop and livestock production.
