Overview

It is no secret that most people avoid mathematics, in large measure because elementary school teachers have never done much to motivate a love of the subject matter. In his latest book, mathematician Alfred S. Posamentier provides easily understandable, easily presentable and easily replicated tricks that one can do with mathematics. All that is required is the ability to do arithmetic, understand the very basics of algebra and geometry and have an open mind for probability. From geometrical puzzles to numerical quirks, Mathematical Tricks will give readers that ""aha!"" moment they may never have received at school.

Reviews

It is rare to find a book that can so effortlessly combine humor and math; scholarship and anecdotes. The author's love of math comes through effusively and is contagious. Without sacrificing rigor, his writing will lure readers, willingly, deep into a subject that too many find dry and difficult. Math Tricks is a pleasure to read. --Maria Tamargo, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry at The City College of New York Mathematics does not have to be sequestered to an ivory tower. Posamentier's Math Tricks proves that math can be accessible, engaging, and most importantly, pure fun! This book emanates joy and wonder while edifying skills and concepts in arithmetic, logic, geometry, probability and more. If you are seeking a math book that is as entertaining as it is educational, look no further! --William Farber, Ed.D., Professor of Mathematics Education, Mercy College and Member of the New York State Association of Mathematics Supervisors Hall of Fame Once again, Professor Posamentier has given us a brilliant introduction to mathematical activity. Instead of boring arithmetic, he shows us how playing with numbers can become an addictive activity of endless entertainment suitable for almost any age. No teacher or parent should be without this wonderful collection of games, tricks, puzzles, and magic revelations. Above all, this book makes mathematics lessons and evenings with homework just such fun! --Baroness Pauline Perry, formerly Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education, United Kingdom
