Overview

Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Endocrinology: Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Clinical Management systematically examines the normal and abnormal endocrinology of the pregnant and lactating female and of the fetus and neonate. This reference volume expands coverage of specific disorders and diseases beyond the current endocrinology content on the market, which in most cases has a paragraph or no mention at all about pregnancy or aspects of fetal/neonatal development.

His clinical practice focuses on osteoporosis, disorders of bone metabolism, thyroid disorders, and general endocrinology. His basic, translational, and clinical research focuses on adaptations in calcium and bone metabolism that occur during reproduction and fetal development. Dr. Kovacs has received over a dozen national and international awards for excellence in research, including the 2003 Gold Medal in Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; the 2003 Young Investigator Award from the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Young Investigator Awards from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and Advances in Mineral Metabolism (AIMM). He is also past President of AIMM. Cheri Deal, PhD, MD, FRCPC retired as the Chief of Endocrinology and Diabetes and tenured Full Professor at the Sainte-Justine Mother-Child University of Montreal Hospital. Dr. Deal continues teaching and research activities and has trained over 50 fellows and residents, published ~150 publications and has completed mandates as the President of the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM), as Council Member for the Growth Hormone Research Society, as the Training Director for the Royal College program in Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes for the University of Montreal and as site leader for the pan-Canadian Child Health Clinical Scientist Training Program (CCHCSP) for many years; she currently sits on the Education Committee of the Council of the International Society of Endocrinology.
